Calculation of the pH of Buffer Solution of 2-[N -Morpholino]ethanesulfonic Acid (MES) from 5°C to 55°C

چکیده
This paper reports the results for the pH of three buffer solutions free of chloride ion. The remaining six buffer solutions have saline media of the ionic strength I = 0.16 mol·kg, matching closely to that of the physiological sample. Conventional paH values for the three buffer solutions without the chloride ion and six buffer solutions with the chloride ion at I = 0.16 mol·kg from 5 ̊C to 55 ̊C have been calculated. The operational pH values for five buffer solutions at 5 ̊C and 55 ̊C have been determined based on the difference in the values of the liquid junction potentials between the blood phosphate standard and the experimental buffer solutions. Five of these buffers are recommended as standards for the physiological pH range 7.5 to 8.5.

Stabilization of pH in solid-matrix hydroponic systems.
2-[N-morpholino]ethanesulfonic acid (MES) buffer or Amberlite DP-1 (cation-exchange resin beads) were used to stabilize substrate pH of passive-wicking, solid-matrix hydroponic systems in which small canopies of Brassica napus L. (CrGC 5-2, genome : ACaacc) were grown to maturity. Two concentrations of MES (5 or 10 mM) were included in Hoagland 1 nutrient solution. Alternatively, resin beads ...
متن کاملInterference by Mes [2-(4-morpholino)ethanesulfonic acid] and related buffers with phenolic oxidation by peroxidase.
While characterizing the kinetic parameters of apoplastic phenolic oxidation by peroxidase, we found anomalies caused by the Mes [2-(4-morpholino)ethanesulfonic acid] buffer being used. In the presence of Mes, certain phenolics appeared not to be oxidized by peroxidase, yet the oxidant, H(2)O(2), was utilized. This anomaly seems to be due to the recycling of the phenolic substrate. The reaction...
متن کاملEquilibrium Studies of Dibutyltin(IV)–Zwitterionic Buffer Complexation
Equilibrium studies in aqueous solution are reported for dibutyltin(IV) (DBT) complexes of the zwitterionic buffers "Good's buffers" Mes and Mops. Stoichiometric and formation constants of the complexes formed were determined at different temperatures and ionic strength 0.1 mol·L-1 NaNO3. The results show that the best fit of the titration curves were obtained when the complexes ML, MLH-1, MLH-...
متن کاملMES Buffer Affects Arabidopsis Root Apex Zonation and Root Growth by Suppressing Superoxide Generation in Root Apex
In plants, growth of roots and root hairs is regulated by the fine cellular control of pH and reactive oxygen species (ROS). MES, 2-(N-morpholino)ethanesulfonic acid as one of the Good's buffers has broadly been used for buffering medium, and it is thought to suit for plant growth with the concentration at 0.1% (w/v) because the buffer capacity of MES ranging pH 5.5-7.0 (for Arabidopsis, pH 5.8...
متن کاملBuffering agents modify the hydration landscape at charged interfaces.
Buffering agents are widely used to stabilise the pH of solutions in soft matter and biological sciences. They are typically composed of weak acids and bases mixed in an aqueous solution, and can interact electrostatically with charged surfaces such as biomembranes. Buffers can induce protein aggregation and structural modification of soft interfaces, but a molecular-level picture is still lack...
